I Tried Making The Viral Dalgona Coffee

Everyone's making the Dalgona Coffee ☕ since it went viral. I know a lot of people are bored nowadays and the ingredients are easy to find too. This is why it is also now called the 'quarantine drink/coffee' during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

Dalgona Coffee is basically your home-made beaten or whipped coffee. You can make it using equal proportions of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. For example, two tablespoons of coffee, sugar, and water. Mix and whip them all together until it becomes creamy or a bit foamy. It is so easy to make. This drink originated in South Korea and India.

THE MAKING

So yeah, I tried doing it last month for the first time. I've read a lot of posts online and I thought, yeah, I think it is easy to make. However, we do not have a hand mixer and a whisk. I know I won't be able to do it using a fork but I still tried. It already took me an hour and I still haven't achieved the foamy texture. What do I expect? Haha! And by the way, I failed on my first try because I used water with normal/room temperature so I made another one using hot water. My Mama handed me a manual hand mixer (the one that you need stir manually) and it helped me a lot rather than using just fork. It took me another 30 minutes to achieve the whipped texture.

Do NOT use cold water or water at room temperature. Do NOT use 3 in 1 coffee. It won't work. I saw one video on Tiktok wherein they put the mixture in a bottle and shake it up. I think it will work somehow but it might take time too.

On a glass or cup, pour your preferred fresh milk first. Then top it off with your whipped coffee mixture. You may also add caramel, oreo, etc on top.

THE VERDICT

After two hours of experimenting and doing it manually, I was able to achieve this texture. However, my hands and arms were numb after doing this and I don't think it is worth it. Haha! It's like an arm work out. 💪 If you have a hand mixer, it is all good. You do it, babe. But if you don't have one and you'll do it like what I did, I hope you'll have your second thoughts. Haha!

As for the taste, well, it tastes like the usual coffee since we used simple ingredients. What makes it different is the whipped texture. I was amazed  by the fact that we can do this kind of drink at home. It is definitely a game-changer especially when you are a coffee lover. I suggest that you add toppings like oreo or cinnamon for you to appreciate it more.

I might try to make another one using Milo or Matcha. But let me buy a hand mixer first 'cause I won't to it manually again 😂 So have you tried making your own Dalgona Coffee?
